Global Podcast Marketplace Acast to Present the Award for Best Independent Podcast at the 2021 New Zealand Podcast Awards

6 September, 2021

The inaugural New Zealand Podcast Awards has today announced the launch of a new award category in partnership with leading podcast marketplace, Acast

The Acast Best Independent Podcast Award celebrates the hundreds of podcasts being produced by independent creators from New Zealand. This award recognises those creators who have spent countless hours researching, recording, editing and marketing their podcasts without the support of a large media company.

In a further show of support for the independent podcast creator community in New Zealand, Acast will provide prizes to the top 3 place-getters in the Acast Best Independent Podcast Award category.

Henrik Isaksson, Managing Director, Acast Australia and New Zealand said, “At its heart, Acast is a creator-first business. Our scale and independence within the open podcasting environment means creators have access to the tools they need to develop and grow valuable listener relationships, while maintaining complete creative control. It’s for this reason that supporting independent creators will always be important to us.

Being involved in the New Zealand Podcast Awards and specifically, the Acast Best Independent Podcast Award is a great opportunity for us to recognise the amazing work being done by Kiwi creators, both locally and abroad.

It’s no secret that the podcast industry is booming and the New Zealand market is no different. Much-loved hosts such as Urzila Carlson (That’s Enough Already) and Tim Batt and Guy Montgomery (The Worst Idea of All Time) are doing amazing things with quality content, so now is the perfect time to celebrate our growing industry and the creators that are powering that growth.”

Nominations for the Best Independent Podcast, presented by Acast will remain open until midnight (NZT) on 10 September, 2021. Independent podcasts that have already been submitted to other categories will be automatically added to this new category. Nominations can be made at
